Social Media Policy

Center Within Therapy, LLC
Melissa Parrish, MA, LPC, ASDCS, CCTP, CGP
Licensed Professional Counselor, New Jersey License #37PC01294000

Center Within Therapy maintains professional social media accounts to share general information about mental health, therapy, caregiving, grief, anxiety, neurodivergence, and related topics. This policy explains how those accounts are used and what you can expect when interacting with them.

Social Media Is Not Therapy

Content shared by Center Within Therapy on social media is intended for general educational and informational purposes only. Posts, videos, comments, stories, and other social media content are not psychotherapy, clinical advice, diagnosis, assessment, or a substitute for individualized mental health care.

Social media content may not apply to your individual circumstances. Viewing, following, liking, sharing, commenting on, or otherwise interacting with Center Within Therapy's social media content does not establish a therapist-client relationship with Melissa Parrish, MA, LPC or Center Within Therapy.

A therapist-client relationship is established only after the appropriate intake, informed consent, and practice procedures have been completed.

Direct Messages and Social Media Communication

Social media is not a secure or confidential method of communicating about your mental health or treatment.

Please do not use direct messages, comments, tags, or other social media features to share sensitive personal or health information.

Messages sent through social media are not continuously monitored and should not be used for urgent needs, clinical concerns, scheduling matters, or crisis support.

If you are interested in becoming a client, please use the contact or consultation options available through the Center Within Therapy website.

Current clients should use the communication methods established as part of their care rather than social media to discuss appointments, treatment, or other clinical matters.

Current and Former Clients

Your privacy is important.

Center Within Therapy will not publicly identify you as a current or former client or disclose information about your treatment through social media.

You are free to follow, unfollow, like, or otherwise interact with Center Within Therapy's professional social media accounts. However, your interaction with a mental health professional's account may be visible to other people depending on your privacy settings and the platform you are using. Because of this, interacting with the practice's social media accounts may carry privacy risks that are outside of Center Within Therapy's control.

If you are a current or former client and choose to comment publicly on a post, Center Within Therapy will generally not respond in a way that acknowledges or confirms a therapist-client relationship.

Following, Friending, and Personal Accounts

Center Within Therapy maintains professional boundaries between clinical relationships and personal social media.

Melissa Parrish does not accept friend or follow requests from current clients through personal social media accounts.

Center Within Therapy also does not routinely search for or monitor clients' personal social media accounts. Information found online will not ordinarily be incorporated into treatment without your knowledge or permission.

Comments and Public Interaction

Comments and discussion on professional social media accounts are welcome when appropriate, but please remember that social media is a public or semi-public space.

For your own privacy, avoid sharing personal mental health information, treatment details, diagnoses, or other sensitive information in comments.

Center Within Therapy may hide, delete, restrict, or disable comments when necessary to protect privacy, maintain professional boundaries, reduce harmful or misleading information, or keep the page appropriate for its intended educational purpose.

Sharing and Reposting Content

You are welcome to share publicly available educational content from Center Within Therapy using the sharing features provided by the social media platform.

Sharing Center Within Therapy content does not mean that the information is individualized to you or that Center Within Therapy has evaluated or endorsed how the information may apply to your particular situation.

Content created by Center Within Therapy should not be reproduced, altered, or presented as someone else's original work.

Testimonials, Reviews, and Client Experiences

Center Within Therapy does not ask clients to discuss their treatment publicly on social media.

If someone independently chooses to post a review, comment, recommendation, or other statement about their experience, Center Within Therapy may be unable to respond substantively because doing so could risk acknowledging a therapist-client relationship or disclosing confidential information.

For the same reason, a lack of response to a public comment or review should not be interpreted as confirmation, disagreement, or agreement with anything stated.

Crisis and Emergency Support

Center Within Therapy's social media accounts are not monitored as a crisis service and should not be used to request emergency or immediate mental health support.

If you are experiencing emotional distress or a mental health crisis, you can call or text 988 to connect with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger or needs immediate medical attention, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Professional Information and Outside Resources

Center Within Therapy may occasionally share articles, organizations, books, websites, accounts, or other outside resources that may be useful or relevant.

Sharing a resource does not necessarily constitute an endorsement of every statement, service, opinion, or piece of content provided by that individual or organization.

Likewise, following another account or being followed by an account should not be interpreted as a professional endorsement or affiliation.

Changes to This Policy

Social media platforms and their privacy practices change over time. Center Within Therapy may update this policy as needed to reflect changes in technology, professional standards, or practice procedures.

If you are a current client and have questions or concerns about social media boundaries or how this policy applies to our work together, you are welcome to discuss them with me directly during a session.
