Finding a therapist who truly understands your experience matters.

By the time most people reach out

By the time most people reach out, they've usually spent a long time trying to make sense of things on their own. Finding a therapist who truly understands your experience matters.

Maybe it's the exhaustion of caregiving for a medically complex or neurodivergent kid, and the isolation of feeling like few people truly understand what that costs you day after day. Maybe you're a first responder's spouse who's stopped mentioning how hard it actually is, because everyone assumes you're used to it by now. Maybe you're grieving a version of your life that was supposed to happen and didn't, and you're tired of people telling you to focus on the positive.

I'm Melissa Parrish, MA, LPC, ASDCS, CCTP, CGP. I work with adults who often look like they're holding everything together on the outside while quietly carrying much more than most people realize.

The first conversation is a free consultation. It's simply an opportunity for us to get to know one another, answer your questions, and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

Sessions are held over secure telehealth and are available to adults anywhere in New Jersey.

What Happens Next

  • Step 1: Reach Out

Choose a time for your free consultation through the booking link. If you have a question before scheduling, you can use the contact form or email me instead.

  • Step 2: Consultation

We'll spend about 20 minutes discussing what's bringing you to therapy, answering your questions, and helping you feel more comfortable with what the process entails before you decide whether to schedule your first session.

  • Step 3: First Session

When you decide to move forward, we'll schedule your first session. We'll start wherever you are, taking time to understand what's been happening and identify the goals that feel most important to you. From the beginning, our work is guided by what matters most to you.

Service Area

You don't need to know exactly where to start before reaching out. The consultation is simply a chance to ask questions, learn more about my approach, and decide whether moving forward feels right for you.

Based in Hackettstown, New Jersey, Center Within Therapy provides secure online therapy for adults throughout the state, including Morris, Warren, Sussex, and Hunterdon counties. Wherever you're located, you can access specialized therapy from the privacy and comfort of your own space.

Areas I specialize in include:

  • Grief that doesn't fit a timeline. Death, anticipatory grief, or the loss of a life you thought you'd have.

  • Late-diagnosed or lifelong neurodivergence. Autism, ADHD, and the exhausting work of figuring out who you are outside of masking.

  • Anxiety and chronic stress that keeps your nervous system stuck in survival mode. The kind that hijacks your sleep, your focus, and the moments that matter most.

  • Caregiving for a medically complex or neurodivergent child. The specific isolation of loving someone whose needs most people don't understand.

  • First responders and their families. Navigating hypervigilance, difficult experiences, changing schedules, relationship challenges, and the ways the job can shape life both on and off shift.

Ready When You Are

You don't need the right words or a perfectly organized explanation of what's been happening.

You simply need a place where your experiences can be understood, where you don't have to convince someone that this is hard, and where we can begin to make sense of it together.

If that sounds like what you're looking for, let's talk.
